The 123D Design by Autodesk is an online designing tool that allows users to create 3D models online by dragging basic pieces together. Completed models can be sent to 123D Make where they can be printed and students are able construct the models with the printouts. There are also many education ready-made 3D models including chemical molecules as resources for teachers and students.

Student Activity and Engagement:
Students will use this designing tool to construct 3D atom, molecule and particle models and learn about the structure and bonding concepts. This activity provides a great visual representation of molecule structures which would enhances student understanding and interest especially for visual learners.
Syllabus Outcomes:
NSW Chemistry Stage 6 Syllabus
Students:
- 8.2.3.2.8 describe molecules as particles which can move independently of each other
- 8.2.3.2.9 describe the formation of covalent molecules in terms of sharing of electrons
- 8.2.3.3.1 analyse information by constructing or using models showing the structure of metals, ionic compounds and covalent compounds
- 13.1 present information by:
d) using symbols and formulae to express relationships and using appropriate units for physical quantities
e) using a variety of pictorial representations to show relationships and presenting information clearly and succinctly
